Sendo assim, o livro é ambientado nos EUA de 1922, narra a história de Gatsby, e tem como pano de fundo os anos prósperos e loucos que sucederam a Primeira Guerra Mundial. E quem narra o livro é Nick Carraway, um observador honesto que vai descobrindo junto com o leitor o mundo misterioso de Gatsby.
